c/o Andrew Tyrrell, President
On behalf of the Oakville Sports Council, I would like to thank you and your organization for becoming a member of the Oakville Sports Council for the upcoming year.
The Sports Council is dedicated to bringing the message of sport forward to decision-makers while continuing to provide support to its members through funding grants, training and educational workshops, informative resources and regular communications.
The Oakville Sports Council recognizes the importance and benefits of sport and physical activity for youth and adults, along with the correlation of participation demand/rates and the availability of adequate facilities. Since the approval of the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Library Master Plan, the Oakville Sports Council has been working, and will continue to work, diligently with both its member organizations and the Town to ensure that facility priorities and other sport issues are met and followed through.
The Sport Council considers email as its primary method of communication. Regular communications are sent out to update members on recent sport issues within Oakville and the province, news items, availability of funding, upcoming and past events and more.
Our website, www.oakvillesportscouncil.ca, offers a wealth of information, such as news articles, printable documents, sports library, resource listing, and much more. We encourage our members to send us information regarding upcoming events so that we can post these on our events page. Be sure to check it out regularly!
The Sports Council is managed by a Board of Directors (8 elected members) and meets monthly throughout the year. The Annual General Meeting is held in January or February at which time elections are held for vacant positions. The Oakville Sports Council also has several sub-committees, comprised of volunteers who assist with carrying out the mandate of the Sports Council.
In order for the Oakville Sports Council to fulfill its objectives, we encourage your organization to be an active member—get involved, send us your success stories and ideas, and participate on a sub committee. Let us know how we can help you. Should you require any information, please do not hesitate to contact Louise Veres (Town of Oakville staff) at lveres@oakville.ca
(905-845-6601, ext 3154) or myself.
Yours in Sport,
Cathy Watt
